Planning Your Wedding During Covid
After two years of overcoming a pandemic, we all know that planning a wedding is no easy task. Every other month guidelines and restrictions from local authorities change and can alter your wedding plans, as well as having a close friend or family member sick. Nevertheless, as wedding videographers, we have seen many couples have managed to plan their big day successfully, and you can follow their advice to say I do and sort the challenges of the COVID19 pandemic.
Be mindful of the situation.
Perhaps you envisioned a lavish celebration, with 200 guests, floral hanging from the ceiling, and a large family table gathering both families as you share dinner. But before you find a wedding venue to fit them all, it is important to look around and find out if the current situation allows you to plan such a wedding.
We have learned that things change quickly; one moment, you see a decrease in cases and restrictions loosen up, but the next month travel restrictions are back, and gatherings are limited. So, our advice is to find out how things are going in the location you are planning to tie the knot before taking any step.
Flexibility is your biggest ally.
With ever changing health authorities’ advice, we know how hard it is to put your wedding plans on track. But you must know from day one that you need a plan B, C, and D, and youshould be comfortable with the idea of any of them happening. Perhaps your main plan is a family wedding with close friends and a total of 80 guests, but two months before the bigday you must cut the list because things are changing, and it is possible that by the time your wedding day arrives you can only celebrate with your nuclear family.
Knowing all those possible scenarios and having alternatives for each of them will give you peace of mind and a plan to follow. If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can hire a wedding planner to manage all communication with vendors and provide advice on signing contracts. As wedding videographers, we know it is important to be flexible with rescheduling and canceling because things can change without notice.
Do what makes you feel comfortable.
We all have a different attitude regarding health and this pandemic. For some, the best option is to keep it small and request proof of vaccination or a negative test result, while others might feel comfortable around their friends and family without having those requirements. If your local authorities don’t enforce any of those requirements, you can choose to ask your guests to comply or not.
If you wish to elope and forgo the whole vendors and guests’ dilemma, go ahead. If you want to wait as long as it takes or complies with your local guidelines to have a large wedding with all your family and friends, do it so. It is all about doing what makes you happy. Don’t feel pressured to plan an event you are uncomfortable with; your friends and family know you well and will agree to follow your wishes.
Prepare for booked vendors.
During 2020 the whole wedding industry had a full stop. We, as wedding videographers, experienced it, and many couples are still waiting for their moment to come. It is no secret that wedding venues and vendors have 2022 fully booked, so if you are in the first stages of wedding planning, you must know chances are your potential venue will not be available for the date you have in mind. The option you have is to host a weekday wedding because vendors are mainly booked for weekends or hold up for next year. And if you are crafty, you can take the lead on some decoration DIY projects to have fewer vendors to find.
Have the greatest wedding of all time.
The key to succeed at wedding planning during COVID19 is to focus on what matters the most, which is not the number of guests or how big your centerpieces are, but saying I do to a new stage in life with your loved one, while your nearest and dearest witness the moment and share the evening with you. Understandably, you will feel frustrated at times and helpless, but if you manage to keep your hopes high and be grateful for finding love in these hard times, we are certain your wedding will be the greatest of all time.
